Carbon nanotubes and Carbon Nanotubes-based composites can be synthetized for inclusion into the mixtures employed for processing clutch facings and brake pads.

This will lead to the identification of a completely new friction material, made of carbon nanotubes and dense carbon based composites, which allows:

(1) a very stable friction coefficient also in extreme conditions of temperature in order to avoid the usual decay starting from 350-400 °C;

(2) a significant improvement in terms of burst resistance for break facing, considering that nanotubes are one of the material with the highest tensile strength;

(3) a significant improvement of the comfort performances in terms of noise and absorption of vibrations, (avoid squeal and judder phenomena).

(4) the development of a safe product. Safe for the manufacturing process and safe in use (brake application) also considering the environmental effect.

With this innovative research project, it is expected to obtain finally a suitable material for the production of high performance finished products in terms of flexibility, high thermal resistance, high tensile strength.
